Self-Deception: Theory and Practice – Laura Kipnis

Laura Kipnis, author of such books as The Female Thing: Dirt, Envy, Sex, Vulnerability (2006), Against Love: A Polemic (2003) and Bound and Gagged: Pornography and the Politics of Fantasy in America (1996), will give a Distinguished Centenary Lecture at the University of Alberta.

Kipnis is a cultural critic and Professor in the School of Communication at Northwestern University. She frequently writes for magazines like The Nation, The Village Voice, Harper’s, and The New York Times Magazine.

The Female Thing: Dirt, Envy, Sex, Vulnerability is “a pointed, audacious, and witty examination of the state of the female psyche in the post-post-feminist world of the twenty-first century.”
