Panties for Peace

Rights and Democracy University of Alberta Delegation is presenting 2 events as part of the international Panties for Peace campaign. Panties for Peace seeks to raise awareness of the human rights violations currently taking place under the military regime of Burma. Superstitious junta members believe that coming into contact with women’s underwear will deplete them of their power. By sending panties to Burmese embassies around the world, this campaign allows women to add their voices to the protest against the human rights violations taking place in Burma.

On Tuesday, March 2nd the Oscar nominated film Burma VJ will be presented at 5 pm at SUBStage.

On Monday, March 8th you can celebrate International Women’s Day by learning more about the Panties for Peace campaign in the Alumni Room (SUB) from 6-8pm. This is a free event and will include fair trade coffee and tea, and snacks. You can also bring a clean (new or used) pair of panties to add to the campaign collection.
