Meet & Greet, Women’s Health Week UPDATED

With Food!!!

The Women’s Centre will be holding a Meet & Greet this Thursday, October 7th from 5 – 7 p.m. in the KIVA Room (Education North 2-103). Everyone is welcome to attend – whether you’re already familiar with us or you just want to tentatively see what we’re all about. We will be introducing ourselves, going over the functions of the Centre, and outlining some of the events we would like to organize for the rest of the semester. Stop by to introduce yourself, find out how you can get involved, and did we mention the food?

We are also hosting a Women’s Health Week the second week of October with some other groups on campus. Here’s all the information so far:

Yoga Presentation: Yoga presentation and information session by the U of A Yoga Collective. Will detail some beneficial poses for women’s health.
Tuesday October 12, 11 – 12 p.m., Humanities Lecture 3.

Guest Speaker: Dinah Bear will be providing an introduction to Cycle Charting. Topics to be covered include what charting is, some of the background history, who uses it and why, the scientific basis for charting, our community resources, as well as a discussion on the feminist issues around charting’s lack of availability – “I am passionate about women’s ability to make informed contraceptive choices, yet we are so rarely fully informed!”
Tuesday October 12, 5 – 6 p.m., SUB 4-20 (4th Floor)

Burning Bowl ceremony: The Burning Bowl ceremony is a spiritual event where an individual can let go of past wounds, burdens, and sorrows. In addition, it allows one to manifest the positivity and events they want to see in their life. The event is comprised of a sharing circle, a reflective journaling part, a ceremony of letting go of the past and present anchors that hold us back from reaching our higher selves and then lastly, a closing circle of writing letters to ourselves of what we will create in our lives to flourish and love ourselves more. This event is beneficial in many ways, including creating a stronger sisterhood, looking deeper into ourselves and being honest with our selves, and taking back control of what life events we are experiencing and wish to experience in the future.
Thursday October 14, 5 – 9 p.m., KIVA Room (Education North 2-103).

Voices for Choices Film Screening: Voices for Choices will screen the film  Revolutionary Road. They will also be on hand to introduce their group and ways you can get involved with them.
Friday October 15, doors at 4:30 p.m., movie to start at 4:50 p.m., CAB 243.

We hope to see you out at some of these events! Have a great October everyone!
